These days, everyone has been spending more time at home studying (or not) than ever before. What are the study space essentials that everyone needs to know about? We’re talking ideas or items that not only are functional, but actually enhance your study experience and outcomes.
Let’s look into some of the essentials to creating a great study space.
Set up somewhere distraction-free
Often, putting a desk in your bedroom means that you are easily distracted. Consider setting up to study somewhere that has less distractions – a busy family room is also likely to be distracting. While some people prefer quiet spaces, others like a little bit of noise. Work out what works for you by trying out studying in a few different spots before you settle on one.
Put up a calendar
It’s nice to have things around you as you study. A calendar is a great reminder of what school-related events you have coming up, helping you with your organisation, as well as reminding you of the non-study things that you have to look forward to.
Make sure you have good lighting
Studying at a desk near a window that lets in lots of light is a great idea. If that’s not possible, make sure that you’re still studying in a spot with bright lighting, whether it’s overhead lighting or a good lamp.
Get a message board
A message board is a fun way of bringing style and motivation to your study space. Find a quote which inspires you, or put up something about your goals so you don’t forget what it is that you’re studying for. You can get a customisable message board that you can change – or family members can leave encouraging messages on it. Remember that your study space doesn’t have to be dull and plain!
Make the temperature right
There’s no worse way of being distracted than being too hot or too cold while studying. Set up somewhere comfortable where there won’t be icy drafts of air or blasts of heat from the heater. Uncomfortable temperatures are ultimately just another distraction worth avoiding.
Get creative about where you study
If your current study area doesn’t excite you, consider changing it up. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a city in lockdown – there are always options. Maybe you can make a tub of your most important study materials so you can move around your house and study in different spots. Study outside on sunny days! You could also move a desk to a hallway, or under your stairs, if you find yourself distracted in your bedroom.
