Today, we're very excited for you to meet one of Learnmate's long time tutors, Ari! Ari has been helping students kick academic goals on Learnmate since achieving an ATAR of 99.10 in 2020 and we're delighted to tell you a little more about him.

1. Tell us about yourself and your background, Ari!

I am a university student currently studying a bachelor of commerce and a concurrent diploma in mathematical sciences. As a VCE tutor, I aspire to make a difference to the academic journey of high school students through a combination of developing their understanding of core content and promoting critical thinking skills and positive study habits.
My goal as a tutor is for my students to walk away from each lesson feeling more confident, well-supported, better-equipped and optimistic about facing the academic challenges which lie ahead.

2. What inspired you to become a tutor?

I really enjoyed many of the subjects I took in VCE. What I learned in the subjects I took was really intriguing and valuable. I also appreciated the collaborative nature of VCE. I thoroughly enjoyed studying alongside my peers, supporting friends who had trouble understanding certain topics and receiving their support in return. I found this exchange of knowledge and ideas very rewarding and valuable.
Tutoring is a highly effective way for me to extend my passion for helping others learn and to share my expertise.

3. What do you find most rewarding about tutoring?

What I find most rewarding about tutoring is witnessing the improvement of my students. Seeing their confidence build, their understanding develop, and their analytical thinking skills strengthen, is deeply motivating. Knowing that I have helped my students achieve their goals and that I have made a positive impact on their academic journey is very fulfilling.
I also find it rewarding when my students become more curious and passionate. It is gratifying to know that my efforts have made my students more inquisitive and enthusiastic about subjects they previously had trouble with.

4. Do you have a story you can share with us that gives us an insight about you?

A couple of years ago, I was introduced to a student who was interested in receiving accounting tutoring. At the time, it was this student’s least favourite subject. - this student was really struggling with accounting. After supporting the student for two years with their accounting studies, they ended up successfully enrolling in a business and accounting degree at university, which was a really fulfilling experience.

5. What can families and students expect from you as their tutor?

Students can expect a highly committed tutor who provides a deeply engaging and rewarding tutoring program. I recognise that each student learns differently and is engaged by different methods of teaching. This tailored approach is fundamental to my tutoring style. Students can expect to receive plenty of practice, a wealth of resources, to think critically and to be challenged.
Crucially, students deserve empathy – my approachable tutoring style ensures that all students of any background and level of education feel welcome.
