READ MOREFind IB Physics tutors on Learnmate for SL and HL — covering Space, Time and Motion, Wave Behaviour, Fields and Nuclear and Quantum Physics, with support for Internal Assessments and final exams.
1:1 lessons target your specific knowledge gaps, build exam-ready skills and develop the analytical thinking the IB Physics mark schemes reward.
Browse tutors who scored 6s and 7s in IB Physics — including IB Diploma graduates now studying medicine, engineering and science at leading Australian universities.
Flexible online and in-person formats fit around your demanding IB schedule — sessions available evenings and weekends across Australia.
Tutors on Learnmate also support IB Chemistry and IB Maths students across SL and HL.

The current IB Physics course (first assessed May 2025) is structured around five themes: Theme A (Space, Time and Motion), Theme B (The Particulate Nature of Matter), Theme C (Wave Behaviour), Theme D (Fields) and Theme E (Nuclear and Quantum Physics). Both SL and HL students cover the same five themes, but HL students study additional material within several topics — including Rigid Body Mechanics, Galilean and Special Relativity, Thermodynamics, Induction and Quantum Physics — and complete 180 hours compared to SL’s 110 hours. A tutor who has studied IB Physics at HL understands both the conceptual depth the HL examiner expects and the additional topics SL students do not encounter.
The Internal Assessment (IA) is worth 20% of the final IB Physics grade. Students design an original scientific investigation, collect and analyse data and submit a written report assessed against five IB criteria: Personal Engagement, Exploration, Analysis, Evaluation and Communication. Tutors on Learnmate assist with topic selection, methodology, data analysis, graphical treatment and writing the report against the IB rubric — often the area where students lose the most marks. Effective use of the IB data booklet is also a key exam skill tutors work on specifically. In-person sessions are available across Australia — including Melbourne’s eastern suburbs where many IB schools are concentrated (Glen Waverley, Doncaster, Knox, Wheelers Hill) — or online. Browse IB Chemistry tutors and IB Maths tutors for related subject support.
Learnmate is Australia’s leading online tutoring marketplace, connecting IB students with verified tutors who have studied the IB Physics course themselves — at SL or HL — and who understand the specific demands of the five-theme 2025 syllabus, the Internal Assessment criteria and the IB mark scheme expectations that determine final grades. For students studying at IB World Schools across Australia, Learnmate provides access to tutors who have navigated the same course and can explain not just the physics but the IB examiner’s marking logic. All tutors are verified before listing, and payments are processed automatically after each lesson — no cash, no lock-in packages.
IB Physics at HL is widely considered one of the most demanding IB subjects, and even strong students often need targeted support with the Additional Higher Level material, data analysis skills and IA methodology. Private one-on-one tutoring gives IB Physics students the space to work through specific knowledge gaps in the five themes, build command term fluency — the IB-specific vocabulary that determines how exam questions are answered — and refine IA drafts against the marking criteria before final submission.

Browse tutors who have studied IB Physics themselves — at SL or HL — and know exactly what the IB examiner mark schemes reward. Profiles show IB scores, universities attended and years of IB tutoring experience.
From designing your Internal Assessment to practising past papers under timed conditions, tutors on Learnmate help with every component of IB Physics assessment. Online or in-person, sessions fit around your IB schedule.
See each tutor’s hourly rate and student reviews before you reach out. No agency fees, no lock-in packages. Message a tutor directly and arrange your first session — many are available within days.

The qualified teacher and specialist tier includes experienced IB World School Physics teachers with years of classroom delivery across the current five-theme syllabus, PhD-level scientists with 20+ years of university instruction and private tuition experience supporting students across IB, HSC and VCE Physics, and postgraduate researchers in Physics and Quantum Engineering with strong academic backgrounds in theoretical and applied Physics who bring research-level depth to the most demanding HL material.
Among high-achieving IB graduates, the network includes students who achieved 7/7 in IB Physics HL and are now studying Engineering and Science at leading Australian universities, tutors with IB scores of 42–43 points who achieved top band results across IB Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and are currently studying at the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney, University of Sydney astrophysicists with five years of tutoring experience in Physics at all levels, aerospace engineers with professional experience who bring applied Physics depth to IB mechanics and fields, and experienced mechanical engineers with First Class Honours and six years of professional practice who ground abstract Physics concepts in real-world applications. Tutors cover IB Physics SL and HL across IB Chemistry tutors and IB Maths tutors for related IB subject support.
Everything IB Physics students need to know about finding tutoring support — for SL or HL, the IA, or exam technique
HL students study additional content within several themes, including Rigid Body Mechanics, Special Relativity, Thermodynamics, Induction and Quantum Physics. Option topics from the previous syllabus have been removed. Tutors on Learnmate cover the full current syllabus at both SL and HL.
The IB Physics IA is an individual scientific investigation worth 20% of the final grade. Students select an investigation topic, design an experiment, collect and analyse data and submit a written report assessed against five criteria. Tutors on Learnmate provide guidance at every stage — from choosing a focused, measurable research question through to presenting data analysis and conclusions against the IB marking criteria.
IB Physics students often seek tutoring in related subjects. Browse IB Chemistry tutors for support across both SL and HL, IB Maths tutors for Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and IB Biology tutors for students completing the full IB sciences suite. For the full IB curriculum network, browse the IB Tutors hub.
SL students complete 110 hours of the course and are assessed on Themes A–E at Standard Level. HL students complete 180 hours and study additional content within those themes — including Rigid Body Mechanics, Special Relativity, Thermodynamics, Induction and Quantum Physics — that SL students do not sit. The gap in difficulty between SL and HL is significant, and a tutor who has studied HL Physics understands the depth of mathematical treatment and conceptual rigour the HL examiner expects. Tutors on Learnmate specify whether they cover SL, HL or both on their profiles.
