DID YOU KNOW? Tutoring at secondary year levels compared to primary school levels is quite different. In primary school, the teaching is about forming strong foundations for your child, to ensure when they get to high school they can competently and confidently complete more advanced subjects. In high school, tutoring can still be about building foundations, but in high school tutoring is more about advancing students’ knowledge or picking up on socialised weaknesses in their knowledge. Our primary school tutors and indeed all tutors on the LearnMate site understand that each student is different and will cater lesson plans according to your child’s needs.
All of our primary school and high school tutors go through a screening and training process to ensure we only provide you with the best tutors in Australia. All of our tutors also have valid Working With Children Checks.

The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is the credential given to students who have completed senior secondary education (Year 11 and Year 12) in the state of Western Australia, and is intended to become the Western Australian certificate within the Australian Certificate of Education, part of the Australian Qualifications Framework. From 2010 onwards, WACE is now also the set of final examinations that are completed by majority of Year 12 students, replacing the TEE (Tertiary Entrance Exam).
The Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) was the standard academic examination for secondary students completing their twelfth year of schooling in Western Australia during the early twenty-first century. The exam results were used to determine the Tertiary Entrance Rank and the Tertiary Entrance Score. These metrics were used to determine eligibility for entrance to the tertiary institutions in the state.
In 2010, the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) was introduced as an umbrella term given to the set of final examinations that are completed by the majority of Year 12 students.
WACE is a type of diploma awarded by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. It is compulsory to sit English and four other subjects for WACE. Previously, it was also required that students sit a Mathematics course exam, but this has since been removed.
As of 2017, the requirements for successful completion of WACE include:
- completion of at least twenty units, at least ten of which must be Year 12 or equivalent, with at least two of each of:
- arts, languages or social science
- maths, science or technology
- at least 14 “C” grades or higher, of which at least six must be Year 12
- completion of at least four Year 12 ATAR courses or a vocational education Certificate II or higher
- minimum literacy and numeracy standards
WACE is also available overseas in South East Asia. This offers an affordable option for international students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to take this exam in Australia. Several centres are available in Malaysia where the WACE curriculum is delivered.
Did you know? Perth, is one of the most isolated cities in the world, it’s actually closer to Bali than Canberra city. Perth is huge! If Western Australia was a country, it would be in the top ten biggest countries in the world. Perth was ranked the 7th most liveable city in the world in 2016 and awarded a top 10 placing in the hottest destinations for travellers to visit in Australia.
