1. Tell us about yourself, Violet!
Hi! I’m Violet. I love reading, doing Pilates, and travel! I would describe my personality as curious - I am curious about people, concepts, and everything else that comes across my path. I studied Biomedicine and Medicine at the University of Melbourne and have been tutoring science disciplines for a few years now. I would say my teaching style is extremely interactive - I pose lots of questions and work together with students to solve them.
2. What inspired you to become a tutor?
Seeing firsthand the difference that good teaching made to my own confidence and learning inspires me to also create a positive change for others, in helping them gain confidence and understand concepts more deeply.
3. How do you tailor lessons to meet individual student's needs and keep lessons engaging?
I always start off with a discussion about the strengths and struggles of each individual, and ensure that we are on the same page about what we want to achieve from lessons. I like to create an atmosphere that is more like a discussion, rather than a lecture. We work on problems together, create flowcharts together, and talk it out along the way. It’s collaborative and relaxed.
4. Can you share a memorable success story from your tutoring experience?
Every time that my students have sent me a text to let me know of their joy at conquering an exam that was initially intimidating to them. That’s always memorable!
5. What is one piece of advice you would give students struggling with their studies?
It’s about quality over quantity. Putting in sheer hours of study is not the solution. Rather, effective and targeted study is the way to improve.
6. What can families expect from you if they engage you as their tutor?
They can expect me to identify the areas that require improvement and to empower the areas of strength. Additionally, they can expect someone who knows how to deal with struggle, and can help others overcome it.
7. Any other words of wisdom or thoughts you can share?
Consistency wins in the long run. Improving a little bit every day will get you further than long, intense bouts of study done at irregular intervals. It is also more sustainable that way.
