Today, we're very excited for you to meet one of Learnmate's incredible tutors, Kayla! Kayla has been helping students kick academic goals on Learnmate and receiving rave reviews recently and we're delighted for you to meet her.
1. Tell us about yourself, Kayla!
I am currently a third-year Bachelor of Health Science student, majoring in Health and Medical Sciences (Physiology and Anatomy). I also take Greek classes at my university to further improve my proficiency in Greek, which is the language I grew up speaking. Next year I aspire to enter a Master’s degree in either Audiology or Speech Pathology. Unfortunately, I grew up with hearing problems and used these services often. I would love to give back to the community what it so generously gave to me.
Furthermore I graduated with an ATAR of 96.60 and achieved an above 40 study score in all of my year 12 subjects!! I offer tutoring in the subjects of Psychology and Health and Human Development, and I have helped numerous students across Victoria achieve great success (even in a matter of weeks).
I have a valid WWCC.
2. What inspired you to become a tutor?
I have worked as a substitute and assistant Greek language teacher and have volunteered as a kindergarten assistant in an underprivileged school in Bacolod, the Philippines. It was not long until I grew a passion for teaching and aiding others in achieving success, even when they believe they cannot. Although perhaps cliche, after these experiences, I knew tutoring was for me. Anyone that knows me well knows I have a passion for academia and life-long learning, and I have made it my goal to spread that same passion across Victoria and hopefully one day, across the world.
3. What do you find most rewarding about tutoring?
4. Do you have a story you can share with us that gives us an insight about you?
“Kayla is an excellent tutor who has not only made my daughter’s grades improve, but now my daughter loves this subject. Kayla is always available to help.”
As mentioned in this review, I am always available to help. I offer 24/7 support outside tutoring hours for any queries your child may have. My students absolutely love this service and definitely use it.
Although I have students contact me at all hours of the day for support, in the morning, afternoon and even late into the night, I have seen my students go from shy with a lack of self confidence, to bright, confident and successful students. My students have gone from failing grades to A grades in a matter of weeks and months, particularly students who I have once a week or on a regular basis.
5. What can families and students expect from you as their tutor?
Firstly, they would expect a speedy and friendly reply where I will work out a time that will suit the both of us. I conduct lessons online and in person at a very affordable price.
I don’t look at the clock and leave immediately once an hour passes. I end the sessions why my students wish to and when I know they feel happy and confident. I don’t only teach the subject’s content to students, but I teach them how to apply it with my structured responses, detailed notes and descriptive PowerPoint presentations. In addition to the lesson, I offer 24/7 support whereby my students can contact me anytime for help with practise questions, SAC and exam revision and any other VCE queries free of charge.
