1. Tell us about yourself and your background, Gauravi!
Hi! My name is Gauravi, and I am a fourth-year medical student at Monash University. I have been a private tutor since graduating in 2018 with an ATAR of 99.65. My aspirations for the near future are to graduate, start my career as a junior doctor, and to travel.
2. What inspired you to become a tutor?
From an early age, my parents instilled in me the value of education. When I moved to Australia from India, I remember struggling with English and having few friends. Looking back, I'm so grateful for my parents' time with me, reading books and doing math over the kitchen table. Their efforts paid off when I earned a scholarship to one of the best schools in Australia.
Education opened up so many doors of opportunity in my life, from the high school I attended to studying medicine now, and I'm very grateful. Even witnessing how education has transformed my parents' lives has built my love for it.
My dad grew up in a tiny rural village in India. Through the power of education, my dad built a life of opportunity for his children. I believe being a part of a young person's educational journey is a true honour. It's a privilege to be on this journey with my students, just as others were there for me.
3. What do you find most rewarding about tutoring?
The most rewarding thing about tutoring is definitely seeing my students learn throughout the year and seeing them grow in confidence.
4. Do you have a story you can share with us that gives us an insight about you?
Our son had the first introductory lesson with Gauravi for Chemistry and UCAT preparation, and we found her to be precise and supportive. Our son felt confident about the chapter she took him through and clearly saw the benefit of continuing learning with her. We look forward to her sharing tips and tricks that helped her achieve her great results, which I am sure can guide our son too.
5. What can families and students expect from you as their tutor?
Families and students can expect a big smile and love for learning.
