Question 1

How does learnmate work?

Accepted Answer

Learnmate is a marketplace connecting families with 750+ independent tutors across 110+ subjects. Search profiles and message tutors free, or post a job and let tutors come to you. Tutors set their own rates; Learnmate provides verified profiles, reviews, secure payments and support.

Question 2

How much does tutoring cost?

Accepted Answer

Tutors set their own rates from $30/hr + GST — up to 50% cheaper than agencies. 2025 averages on Learnmate: Primary $42/hr · Years 7–10 $57/hr · Years 11–12 $68/hr · overall $64/hr. No lock-in contracts; optional prepaid packages for extra savings.

Question 3

How is learnmate different from a tutoring agency?

Accepted Answer

Agencies hide tutor profiles, fix prices (typically $85/hr+) and keep 40–65% of what you pay. On Learnmate you choose your tutor from full profiles with real reviews, tutors keep 70–77% of their earnings, and the 100% Good Fit Guarantee means you can switch anytime.

Question 4

Are tutors qualified and safe?

Accepted Answer

Every tutor passes an extensive application review before approval — qualified teachers, 99+ ATAR achievers, university students and professionals. Tutors working with under-18s must hold a current WWCC; look for the WWCC badge, which means we've verified theirs directly.

Question 5

How do I choose the right tutor?

Accepted Answer

Filter by subject, year level, curriculum, budget, location, qualified-teacher status and experience, then compare profiles, reviews and rates. Message tutors free before booking. Not sure whether tutoring is right at all? Read our guide: Does my child need a tutor?

Question 6

Can we try a tutor before committing?

Accepted Answer

Yes — no lock-in contracts, no minimum lessons, and many tutors offer a free first lesson (check profiles). Learnmate is cashless: your card is charged securely via Stripe 24 hours after each lesson, so there's nothing to prepay. Switch tutors anytime under the Good Fit Guarantee.

Question 7

Online or in-person — and does online work as well?

Accepted Answer

Both. Use the location filter for in-person tutors near you, or go online to access tutors Australia-wide — especially valuable in regional areas. Research and our own data show online tutoring delivers comparable results to face-to-face.

Question 8

How quickly can we start?

Accepted Answer

Most families message a tutor within minutes of searching and have a first lesson booked within days. Browse tutors now, or post a job and let tutors apply to you.
