Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit my profile. I’m Lauren, a final year Bachelor of Arts student at the University of Melbourne, double majoring in Creative Writing and Politics. I have over two years experience tutoring both IB and VCE students, both in Melbourne and London, both in-person and online. I’m passionate about helping students achieve their goals, and by making their IB or VCE subjects engaging and manageable they will gain the confidence they need to succeed!
I completed my IB Diploma in 2015 at a British international school in Hong Kong, and received a score of 42 points (99.45 ATAR). I am a high distinction student at university, with a weighted average of 81.
I am confident in tutoring the following IB subjects:
-SL or HL English A Literature,
-SL or HL English A Language & Literature,
-SL or HL Philosophy
-SL or HL Theatre,
-Spanish Ab initio
I am also able to tutor VCE English, having helped students with this subject in the past.
In my experience the ideal tutor is approachable and makes the student feel comfortable and safe in the learning environment, and with my outgoing and caring nature I’ll aim to create that. I will individualise my approach for every student; getting to know the student and finding a method of teaching that is best suited to them.
I strongly believe that a high school diploma can be truly enriching, but it can often be very daunting if students don’t feel they have a handle on their subjects. By breaking down the components of the subject, and picking out what parts of it are most interesting to each student, the subject can be fun, and the desired scores easy enough to attain!
I can work with students in all different aspects of their IB or VCE subject, such as:
-understanding key concepts
-critically analysing and understanding texts and theories
-creating thorough and engaging presentations
-completing assessments to the highest standard
-time management and balancing workload
-creating thorough essay or assessment plans
-writing to a standard that best meets criteria and also showcases their individuality
-preparing for examinations
-advising on further study in the arts and humanities
