Hello parents, my name is Joshua. I am a UWA Biochemistry student who graduated from high school in 2019 with a 97.4 ATAR. I provide Human Biology ATAR, Chemistry ATAR, Mathematics Methods ATAR (YR 11 only), and mathematics (primary to high school) lessons.
During high school, I had achieved decent grades through time and effort. It was only after graduating that I discovered a more effective and enjoyable way to learn. Because I understand the difficulties of learning, I can be patient and offer suitable advice to students struggling to grasp a concept.
My lessons are to supplement your child’s learning. They will learn effective study techniques and the relevance of the subject to personal life. I offer advice on incorporating studying into their lifestyle.
My lessons include:
• An overview of the chapter
E.g. Student identifies their current knowledge on a topic, what might be taught in the chapter, and how is the information relevant to them.
• Discussion of what they learnt in class
• Explanation and application of study techniques to understand and remember the content
• Analysis of why the information is presented in a particular way
E.g. Why is a picture of a sweating male chosen for the chapter on ‘Waste Removal’?
Answer: Sweat mostly contains water and trace amounts of salts, sugars, and other chemicals such as urea (found in urine). So, the picture might be chosen to suggest the idea of removing trivial amounts of toxins via sweat. However, the primary purpose of sweating is to increase heat loss.
• Why are students learning about these topics? Who uses this information?
• How is one topic interconnected to another?
• Going through textbook questions
‘Studying is a lifestyle’.
