Hi! Thank you for considering me as an English (44 raw) tutor.
I finished my VCE in 2012, and worked hard to receive an ATAR of 97.55. Since then I’ve been fortunate enough to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and English Studies at Melbourne University.
I was also privileged to participate in the Student Welfare Outreach Team, which provided comprehensive additional English exam revision and tutoring support for Year 12 students all across Victoria.
Since then, I’ve tutored Music and English for students of various ages and am really looking forward to helping you ace your school and VCE goals.
I am also currently studying a Bachelor of Youth Work at RMIT and loving it!
I’m a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive tutor. Building a strong, positive student-tutor relationship is one of my top priorities, as this is fundamental to building confidence and proficiency – and therefore to building success.
First and foremost, I adapt my teaching to student needs and goals, taking into account learning style and interests to best tailor my tutoring approach. Everyone has different goals and ideas of success, and I focus my teaching around this principle. I focus on engaging students in the subject content, building their confidence and guiding them to form their own ideas in order to enhance their understanding.
I’ve been told by some that English can be pretty dry and boring sometimes. However, I seek to change all that! I always seek to teach in a way that is engaging, creative and relevant to the lives of students by relating the concepts and content to the students’ world and interests.
When students can engage personally and meaningfully with the subject, as well as feel confident to successfully express their own unique perspective to the assessors in a meaningful and astute way, the school and VCE experience becomes more fulfilling.
To facilitate this, I focus on assisting the students to form their own unique ideas and perspective and to effectively communicate these ideas – both of which are fundamental to success in English. I encourage this independent thinking and inquiry in students through discussion, practical application of English skills and providing whatever guidance is needed. English is not about what to think, but how to think!
I’ve found that success follows when you work hard, enjoy and thoroughly understand a subject as well as how to apply your skills and knowledge. This learning then becomes a valuable source of empowerment.
