Hello! My name is Cheng (Amanda) and I am a 1st year uni student studying Bachelor of Science/Doctorate of Physiotherapy at University of Melbourne. I completely my IB diploma in 2020 with a final score of 42 (ATAR conversion: 99.20), obtaining a B for my EE and A for TOK, as well as a 7/7 for most of my subjects. Having completed year 12 online, I personally struggled with many of the challenges this brought on my learning, mental space and motivation, but I persevered my way through and definitely have a few tips to share in terms of building effective study habits, staying motivated and much more.
I started tutoring in Year 10, helping younger students from my school directed to me by their teachers with their homework, volunteering at Friday Night School to tutor students of immigrant backgrounds, and continued this through my IB journey. Throughout this time, I have developed a passion for tutoring, having seen my own efforts directly improving students’ grades, piquing their curiosity in their subjects, and helping them develop a positive relationship with learning, and thus have decided to continue tutoring this year. I like to go for a customised approach in tutoring all of my students, identifying their learning styles, knowledge gaps in their subjects and what type of learner they are. On top of teaching them knowledge and helping them with difficult concepts, I also like to help my students making study plans, incorporating retrieval practice and spaced-out revision sessions to put knowledge in their long-term memory.
I prefer to tutor online, but would also be ok doing in-person within 30mins with an $10 extra travelling fee.
I look forward to meeting you!
