MY TEACHING HISTORY

I grew up in Tokyo, and has taught Japanese and English and Education to over 2,500 Students in 200 Classes at 25 Educational Institutions since April 1987 across cultures: in Australia (2001-2009 & 2017-Present); Fiji (2013, 1999-2001 & 1997); New Zealand (1989-1996); and Japan (2010-17, 1998, 1996 & 1987-1989).

MY STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

  • My Japanese language students in both Australia and New Zealand were awarded the following fellowships and prizes:
  1. A Third Year Student (Aged 23 Years) from the University of Sydney completed the “One-Year International Exchange Program” at the University of Tokyo on a scholarship (2005-2006);
  2. A Second Year Student (Aged 20 Years) from the University of Sydney completed the “One-Year International Exchange Program” at the University of Tokyo on a scholarship (2004 – 2005);
  3. A Graduate from the University of Sydney (Aged 26 Years) was awarded a SPECIAL PRIZE in the Open Division of the “35th NSW State Final Japanese Language Speech Contest” organised by the Japan Foundation in North Sydney, September 2004;
  4. A First Year Student (Aged 18 Years) from the University of Sydney came SECOND in the Open Division of the “34th NSW State Final Japanese Language Speech Contest” in North Sydney, August 2003;
  5. A First Year Student (Aged 21 Years) from the University of Sydney came THIRD in the Open Beginner Division of the “34th NSW State Final Japanese Language Speech Contest” in North Sydney, August 2003;
  6. A Year Eleven Student (Aged 17 Years) from Cumberland High School in Sydney came FOURTH in the Senior A Division of the “33rd NSW State Final Japanese Language Speech Contest” in North Sydney, September 2002;
  7. A Third Year Student (Aged 25 Years) from Auckland University, NZ, completed the “One-Year International Exchange Program” at Sophia University in Tokyo 1990;
  8. A Sixth Form Student in NZ (Australian Equivalent; Year 11, Aged 17 Years) came FIRST in the “Japanese Language Speech Competition” in Wellington, 1995;
  9. A Seventh Form Student in NZ (Year 12 & Aged 18 Years) came SECOND in the “Japanese Speaking Competition” organised by the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association in Auckland, 1993;
  10. A Fifth Form Student in NZ (Year 10 & Aged 16 Years) came THIRD in the above “Japanese Speech Competition” in Auckland, 1993;
  11. A Fourth Form Student in  NZ (Year 9 & Aged 15 Years) was HIGHLY COMMENDED by the judges from the above “Japanese Speech Competition” in Auckland, 1993; and
  12. A Sixth Form Student in NZ (Year 11 & Aged 17 Years) was COMMENDED by the judges from the above “Japanese Speech Competition” in Auckland, 1993;

MY QUALIFICATIONS

  • As a first Japanese student, I was awarded the degree of Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Sociology of Education from the University of Sydney in 2006. My doctoral thesis examined “Cultural Influences on Academic Performance in Fiji”. The thesis was published in a monograph by a German publishing house in 2008. As a first Japanese student, I also earned a Master of Education (ME.d.) degree in Multicultural Education in 1996, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Education in 1992 from Victoria University of Wellington, N.Z. I completed the Master’s degree on a scholarship offered by that university.

Costs: $30.00 for a 90 minute-lesson

Availability: Sundays (4:30pm – 6:00pm) & Mondays (6:30pm – 8:00pm)
