Year 7: What to expect

The transition to Year 7 can be a big change for students, as it marks the beginning of secondary school studies here in Australia.

Students will be exposed to new subjects including languages, humanities and technology studies, in addition to continuing with the English, maths, science and arts classes they took in primary school. They will also be expected to take more responsibility for their own learning, tackling an increasing volume of homework and scheduling study time outside of school hours.

Other challenges may include navigating a larger campus, moving from room to room for classes, studying with a number of different teachers and making new friends (particularly if students have moved to a new school, as is often the case). However, students can also look forward to enjoying greater independence and learning new and exciting material as they progress through secondary school.
