This workshop will prove to be excellent revision for the first half of the year, where I’ll aim to cover all of Unit 3 in this workshop!
What will I get out of this workshop?
Having recently completed Mathematical Methods units 3/4 with great interest and passion, I aim to approach the coursework from a unique angle, to give a different perspective to what you might get from your teacher.
All throughout high school, I took it upon myself to look past the boundaries of the study design, with the intention of finding a better understanding of why certain things follow certain laws and why everything in the maths world does what it does. Sounds boring, I know, but luckily for you, I was able to isolate the relevant details, and now I have the opportunity to share all this stuff that your teachers may have left out with you!
This workshop will also prove to be excellent revision for the first half of the year. I aim to cover all of unit 3 in this workshop with particular emphasis on exam advise, fixing common mistakes (from the simple sign error to the more obscure ones you don’t hear about), answer layout, and how to approach difficult questions.
The most beneficial aspect of this workshop is without a doubt its interactive nature. With nearly 2 years of tutoring experience, I specialise in communicating and refining explanations according to students’ needs. The best thing about the intimate nature of this workshop is it will hopefully turn out to be quite fun! (I have a good sense of humour, please believe me)
I am more than happy to respond to any questions you may have throughout or even unrelated questions during breaks if you need help in something particular! I will also provide personally crafted notes and questions designed to highlight aspects that the examiners are likely to look for, as well as to point out common tricks and how to overcome them.
What will be covered in this workshop?
I aim to cover all the topics you will have learned in school prior to the winter holidays, this should include:
- How to sketch functions of all kinds, including polynomials, circular functions, exponentials etc.
- Identifying and describing transformations of functions
- Composite functions, addition of ordinates and inverse functions
- Solving equations, including simultaneous equations
- Differentiation, including all of its applications (E.g. tangents, finding maximum and minimums etc.)
I have decided to focus this workshop predominantly on revision, as the manner in which I plan to approach the coursework is to build on your current understanding of each topic from a new perspective; it would not be worthwhile to attempt to explain half a year’s worth of new concepts in one day, especially because everyone learns at different rates. This way it doesn’t matter how strong you are at maths, it will be helpful for all ability levels!
