DID YOU KNOW? Tutoring at secondary year levels compared to primary school levels is quite different. In primary school, the teaching is about forming strong foundations for your child, to ensure when they get to high school they can competently and confidently complete more advanced subjects. All of our primary school and high school tutors go through a screening and training process to ensure we only provide you with the best tutors in Australia. All of our tutors also have valid Working With Children Checks.

The Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) is the main credential awarded to secondary school students who successfully complete senior high school level studies (years 11 and 12 or equivalent, referred to generally as College within Tasmania) in Tasmania, Australia.
The Tasmanian Certificate of Education is awarded based upon a criterion based assessment. This basically means students can be assessed depending upon their meeting or successful completion of standards and criteria. These criteria usually assess knowledge, skills and competencies in differing ways to ensure a wide understanding of the course syllabus has been obtained by the student. It is felt that this is fair and more practical that just relying upon traditional examinations, although many areas of study still utilise exams in conjunction with other methods of assessment.
In order to achieve the TCE students must meet the following standards:
- minimum standards of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to be demonstrated
- a set amount of learning
- 120 Credit Points from subjects (typically 60 points per year)
- at least 80 Credit points must be at Level 2 subjects or higher (these are known as Complexity Points)
- evidence of Pathway planning (achieved through Home Group)
TASC subjects are organised into levels of difficulty – Levels 1,2,3 and 4 (with level 1 being the lowest). Level 3 and 4 subjects are also known as pre-tertiary subjects or university entrance subjects.
- Subjects are allocated points that are used to calculate the total number of points a student requires to attain their TCE.
- Most courses studied are 150-hour courses (C courses) which can be studied at Levels 1, 2, 3 & 4.
- Some courses are 100-hour courses (B courses) and these can be studied at Level 1 or 2.
Upon successful completion of a satisfactory pattern of study students are awarded the “Tasmanian Certificate of Education” (TCE) by way of a testamur. This may also come with a Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) if the student has nominated to attempt a university entrance qualification, and the TER score will dictate which university courses the student is eligible to apply for. The Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) was a tertiary entrance score used in several Australian states, the ACT and the Northern Territory as a tool for selection to universities in Australia. As of 2010, it has been replaced by the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in all states and territories except Queensland.
Did you know? Hobart is the second-driest capital city in Australia. It receives about half as much rain per year as Sydney. The Tasmanian devil, which is only found in Tasmania, is the world’s largest carnivorous marsupial. Unlike Australia’s mainland states, Tasmania enjoys four true seasons — it’s possible to swim at the beach off the main campus in summer and make snowmen in winter! Tasmania isn’t as small as you think in fact it’s about the same size as the Republic of Ireland or Sri Lanka.
