Hi there, and thanks for stopping by on my profile!
I’m Zena, and am offering VCE Chemistry, VCE Biology and Junior Science tutoring service, both online and in person.
I graduated from school all the way back in 2012. Since then, I have completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne, where I majored in Neuroscience and took extensive subjects in Biochemistry. As part of my undergraduate studies I completed a semester abroad at Kings College in London, where my focus was on human physiology in extreme environments. My own tertiary education has taken me down many different pathways and as such I have experience in the GAMSAT (overall score of 75 in 2017) and veterinary medicine.
Last year I realised that my true passion lay in teaching, and next year I will begin a Masters of Secondary Education, specialising in chemistry and biology teaching. Education and scientific study have (clearly) had a significant role in my life, and as a result, I have developed and learnt many methods for understanding and revising scientific content effectively and efficiently. These skills and strategies I love to share with students that I tutor, to guide them in their approach to science subjects, and get them heading in the direction that they want to be going!
I understand the difficulties that are inherent in undertaking science subjects, particularly chemistry. I place an emphasis in my work on developing a strong foundational understanding of content, and being able to link together different parts of the curriculum over time. This helps students to gain an appreciation of the relevance of what they are learning, and an ability to apply and build on their knowledge in new contexts throughout the VCE course. I believe this is an essential method of studying and understanding sciences, as opposed to learning content in isolated topics as is frequently done in a school curriculum.
I am passionate about finding the most effective and engaging method for each student, and work with them to create valuable and effective learning and study strategies that best suit them.
