Hi guys. My name’s Zach and I’m a professional editor and freelance writer, International Baccalaureate graduate and holder of a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) from RMIT. I am offering both in-person and online tutoring in English, History and Sociology for years 7–12. For years 10 to 12 I am open to tutoring both VCE and IB students.
As a tutor I focus on cutting through the jargon and making material understandable to students as well as explaining marking rubrics and showing students how to tailor their assignments to these rubrics.
ABOUT ME & QUALIFICATIONS
I’ve worked for two years as a copy-editor and writer at The Jakarta Post, one of Southeast Asia’s leading daily English language newspapers. So you can be assured that my English skills are impeccable. Before that I was employed as an ESL teacher at English First one of Asia’s leading private English tutoring institutions. In 2014, I graduated from the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) at RMIT with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 (distinction average). I successfully completed the International Baccalaureate diploma in 2007 with a score of 36 (ATAR equivalent of 94.60).
I believe that the two most important skills for a tutor to have are an ability to make materials clear to students and to understand the specific criteria that markers are looking for and show you how to tailor your work to that criteria. My previous academic and professional experience has equipped me to show you how to meet these requirements and get those high results you’ve been aiming for.
My teaching style involves using a range of learning methods to accommodate students’ needs and ensure that each student is able to comprehend the material and retain new knowledge. My aim is to foster and maintain an open, communicative and supportive learning environment in which students feel engaged, confident and appropriately challenged. Having gone through the IB and a bachelor’s degree myself, I understand the stress and pressures that students are under and am committed to showing you how to take on your VCE or IB diploma in an effective and manageable way.
LOCATION, AVAILABILITY & COSTS
I charge $45 per hour and $10 dollars for travel if the location in which you wish to be tutored is far from my house in Brunswick. We can meet at your house, my house, a public library or a café. I am also perfectly happy for students to send short inquiries to me outside of tutoring sessions free of charge if there is something that can’t wait until the next session.
I currently have full availability from Monday to Saturday and am available before 5 pm on Saturday.
Feel free to get in contact if you have any questions.
