Hi hello! I’m Yuwen (you can call me Yuwen, Yu, or Harper whichever is easiest). I’m a first year Commerce student at UNSW, so I’m fresh out of high school and still remember pretty much everything I learnt. I achieved an ATAR of 98.75 (admittedly not the best that I could’ve done, I believe I focused too much on out of school material/olympiads during Year 12). Though I studied the QCE system, I did much more learning outside of school (especially with maths). I have done everything in the VCE and HSC syllabuses with maths. I have also done many maths olympiads such as AMC, AIMO, and ASC (all of which I have achieved in the top 0.3% – 1%) and I have also been invited to attend the National Mathematics Summer School. I was accepted into the University of Cambridge to study Economics at Trinity College, but due to my family’s financial problems I was not able to attend (I can also help with UCAS applications).
I have tutoring experience within my school with students between Year 7 – 11 and I did this for two years. It was a volunteer service in school that I had a lot of fun participating in. I realised that many people found it easier to talk to someone closer in age to them and a bit more relatable than a teacher, and that tutors can really help if someone is falling behind and needs more than just the school’s teaching.
I’ve also taught many of my friends’ younger siblings and I have even taught children from age 3-6 at a childcare centre I volunteered at various simple maths and english. I’m able to deal with children of all ages and am able to connect with them and help them learn the way they feel most comfortable.
I’ll make sure to help you to the best of my abilities by providing examples and explaining concepts in ways you can understand. I hope you give me a try 🙂
