Hi! Welcome to my profile, thanks for taking the time to read about me.
My name is Velika and I’m from Melbourne/Bellarine Peninsular and currently live in Melbourne. I enjoy art, reading, as well as organising activities and events (art shows, concerts, exhibitions, community dinners). I offer tutoring for the VCE subjects of Literature, International Studies, Psychology, History:Revolutions and Art.
ME AND MY QUALIFICATIONS
I completed VCE in 2004, achieving an ATAR score of 98.2. The subjects I studied were Literature (42.69), History:Revolutions (46.75), Psychology (45.79), International Studies (45.78) and Art (41.75). It was a fairly unorthodox selection of subjects but I was passionate about all of them and knew that if I followed my interests and abilities I would achieve my best.
I went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts (with a double major in Political Science and Development Studies), finishing in 2010. Since then I have worked in a variety of different fields that have been related to my studies including the community sector, art scene and English language education. I have lived and studied overseas (in the U.S. and Germany) and have a broad and full range of life experiences to draw on, which also means I have a rounded perspective of the impact that the VCE years have. I am also passionate about learning and education!
In the last year I have been tutoring English to high school students in Germany, helping them to gain confidence in their English, working on study techniques, revision as well as different learning strategies to cater to different students learning styles (using visual, memory and association techniques). It has been a unique and rewarding experience and one that I am excited about transferring to the Australian context.
As someone who completed the VCE to a very high level around ten years ago, I now have the distance and reflection to understand the difficulties, stresses and impacts the VCE and ATAR score can have on the years following graduation. Therefore, I take great care to offer considered, strategic and effective tutoring with all my students, as well as taking into account the often turbulent and pressure fuelled time of life it can be. I am also a very strong communicator, and have training in different communication and counselling techniques that I use to help create a rounded learning experience and environment.
Literature, International Studies, History: Revolutions, Art and Psychology are the subjects that I can tutor and have a passion for. They are also subjects that are sometimes considered ‘useless’ in the job market or ‘real world’. As someone who had a great passion for these subjects, I choose them deliberately for their content and then continued the themes into my University studies as well as in the rest of my life. I feel I can really offer a lot to students not just as a tutor that can help you attain your study goals, but as someone who can truly say I followed my dreams.
I have a huge back catalogue of notes and study tips from my VCE as well as University and recent work as English language tutor. I have excellent skills in essay writing and essay writing techniques, how to answer short answer questions, understand and remember terminology and comprehend content.
