About Me and Qualifications
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to look at my profile! My name is Tara, I graduated in 2012, and received an ATAR of 96.65. I did year 12 in Western Australia, so did WACE instead of the HSC, but we’re really not all that different over there. I went to a private school in Perth on an academic scholarship, and am now undertaking a BA in History and World Religions at the University of Sydney.
I love reading and engaging with texts, and I want to share this passion with you. English, History, and Religion are how we tell stories, and connecting with them and learning how cool they can be allows you to study them and articulate your ideas effectively!
I believe one of the most important keys to HSC success is planning and support. I can help you develop a system that works for you, and allows you to achieve the very best you can.
English (Standard, Advanced, Ext 1 &2)
The texts I have studied include Pride and Prejudice, T.S. Eliot, The Great Gatsby, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Cloudstreet, and Judith Wright. I am of course more than willing to read other texts, time permitting, however I’ve found discussing texts I’m unfamiliar with can still provide very interesting and engaging study. The most important thing you can do in the HSC is know what the markers want, and how to give them that. I can help you develop the tools to do this with ease.
During high school I studied Germany 1918-1939, Russia and the Soviet Union 1917-1941, USA 1919-1941, and Australia 1918-1955. I’m familiar with Joseph Chifley, Herbert Evatt, William Randolph Hearst, J Edgar Hoover, Alexandra Kollontai, Douglas MacArthur, Robert Menzies, Eleanor Roosevelt, Albert Speer, Leon Trotsky, and Woodrow Wilson. My peace and conflict focus is on Europe 1935-45. At university I’ve been able to study even more widely covering topics, from Marie-Antoinette sex scandals, to Jewish poetry in Medieval Spain. My love for history may just ignite your own.
Studies in Religion
While I did not undertake HSC studies in Religion, I’m currently studying World Religions at university. I’m familiar with all the content in the course, however I have more in-depth knowledge on the Christianity and Judaism modules. I’m planning to undertake honours or masters in Religion, so you would be in the hands of a very dedicated and interested tutor on this topic.
If you decide I’m the right tutor for you, you will be able to contact me via email or phone 24/7. You’ll have access to all my notes, essays, practice exams, and extensive knowledge and experience! I know year 11 and 12 can be pretty tough, but I believe my passion for learning and teaching can help you get through it with the best results you can achieve!
Location, Availability, Costs
I live in Camperdown, in the Inner West, and can travel up to 30 minutes by public transport. I’m happy to meet at your home, or a public library. As a student at Sydney University I’m also able to book study rooms on campus if you would like. I’m available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons/evenings, and all weekend. I only charge $42 per hour with the first session free, and $27 per person for group sessions (2-4 people).
If you live a little further afield or have questions about schedules just contact me, we might be able to work something out.
I’m excited to help you prepare for the HSC and do the very best you can!
