Hi, my name is Rob and thanks for taking the time to read my profile.
I studied Japanese in the HSC when I was in High School more than 20 yrs ago. I went on to Major in Japanese at University and then moved to Japan and lived there for 20 years. Whilst I was in Japan I continued studying Japanese, passing the JLPT Level 2 and then just missing the passing grade for JLPT Level 1 by 14 marks. My Japanese was good enough at this point where I could converse and get by in almost any situation casual and formal that I felt I had achieved my goal of studying Japanese.
I spent the majority of my time working at the best IB School in Japan. How good is the best you might ask? In 2019 their “average” score for the IB Diplomas was 39 and as a result, they were ranked at number 12 in the world’s top 50 IB schools for 2019. While working here I was able to observe and learn how to best teach students to allow them to maximize their potential.
While I continued to use Japanese daily for work, I was frequently required to do simultaneous translating as a part of my job from Japanese to English between parents and teachers, etc and I continue to do this now but in Cybersecurity.
It is important that you have a desire to learn and ask a lot of questions. It is important that you use the time we spend together as efficiently as possible, i.e so we are not doing things you can do on your own without me, eg looking up the meaning of a word. It is also important you can share with me your curriculum, textbooks if any, and at what stage of learning you are at. The more I know about you the better I can customize the time I spend for you.
I never thought I could understand Japanese fluently and I know it sounds cliche but anyone can do it, you just have to be diligent, never give up, and be prepared to put in the hard work like any subject. My reason for tutoring is to try and help you use your time more effectively and not have to go through all the pain I did. I know there were many times when I wanted to ask someone a question which would have saved say 30 mins of finding it on my own, only to get another question which took the same time to find the answer to.
I am open to tutoring online only.
