Rebekah W – Years 7-10 and VCE English Tutor

With my previous students, I often applied the Socratic method – question generation is great in keeping those brains constantly working! – and resultantly seeing a great improvement in their writing ideas, formulation of arguments as well as their vocabulary bank.

About Rebekah

ABOUT ME!

Hi you! My name is Rebekah and I’d love to help you strengthen your English skills and brush up the areas that you find difficulty in! I graduated in 2019 with an ATAR of 93.05 and an English study score of 39. I am currently studying Biomedical Sciences at Monash University. I offer both online and in person tutoring. My extensive leadership experience throughout high school has really helped in building my communication and organisation skills. I understand the importance of commitment and will always come prepared with both a smile and enthusiastic attitude to help you out in anyway I can. I am very patient and empathetic so I’ll always be up for a chat about any school related stress or anything really. Your mental health is really important to me and making sure that you’re comfortable and willing to open up about any difficulties/ provide feedback is my first priority.

From being a teaching assistant at Kumon for primary mathematics and English, to being a self-employed English tutor, my passion for teaching English and effectively teaching comprehension and writing skills have greatly improved. With my previous students, I often applied the Socratic method – question generation is great in keeping those brains constantly working! – and resultantly seeing a great improvement in their writing ideas, formulation of arguments as well as their vocabulary bank. I also enjoy setting additional activities to complement your school work, with the intention of continuously consolidating those reading and writing skills. The previous teaching strategies I’ve used have been effective and I would love to bring my knowledge to help you as much as I can.

I also studied Extended Investigation as a VCE subject (Study score of 43) – where one of the primary SACs was a critical thinking test. This component of the subject really went hand in hand with English and greatly improved my ability to write argument analyses and ultimately teaching these skills to others. Some of my main aims is to help you develop skills and techniques that will be relevant throughout high school such as:  picking out niche arguments/ themes in your texts for the year and developing comprehensive and sophisticated responses.
