Hi, I’m Bec!
I have the absolute privilege to be able to support learners to reach their academic goals. I have a motivated and determined approach to my learning, which has supported me to maintain a 7.0 GPA in my Bachelor’s of Nursing (set to graduate mid-2021). I graduated from high-school in 2016 with an OP 1 through the QCE system implemented throughout QLD. Underpinning my success was an absolute love of learning and curiosity. I am often posed with the question of, ‘why nursing?’ and my answer is that I love the holistic, compassionate approach of a nurse coupled with problem-solving to understand complex medical problems. The idea of supporting someone to heal, to be understood, or cared for speaks to me and I cannot wait to jump into my career. This attitude very much connects with my personality, as I get the greatest joy in seeing others succeed – hence the passion for tutoring. I am a very outgoing and boisterous personality, who loves to connect achievement with purpose. Beyond my studies and work, you will always wither find me in the kitchen or on the couch curled up with my cats.
I have been tutoring privately since 2014 and moved into a professional role at an in-center company in early 2018. Here I was able to offer my services to a wide range of learner needs and ages. I have experience working with primary, secondary, and tertiary learners mainly in the English and Humanities faculties. I also have been able to engage in the sciences, due to my learning in my degree. Beyond specific subject tutoring, I worked to develop programs for assisting upper primary, high school, and tertiary learners to develop study and academic-based skills. I have a range of strategies, techniques, and exercises that have been tried and tested, that can support any learning to better under the complexities of learning. This may include time management, understanding criteria, quality research practices, and planning. I also have ample experience in supporting learners to develop greater confidence with the mechanics of writing and exam techniques. My latest role saw me in a management position where beyond basic managerial duties, I trained other tutors to deliver effective lessons and developed learning plans for a diverse range of clients.
My approach to tuition will always be a strong focus on individuality and the core belief that students are people first. I love to get to know my students and support them to engage an emotional response to their academics, to better their investment. Through this process, as a team, we can harness your strengths to overcome challenges and reach goals. I also strongly believe in offering techniques and lesson content that differs from school, to hopefully engage a holistic approach. I have a deep understanding of the Australian and QCAA curriculum, which allows me to assess the current achievement level beyond what grades might represent. Why is this important? Well, I don’t believe in the idea of should. If a student is facing roadblocks in class, there is no reason they should just know the content or skill, rather I take the approach of understanding where the challenge is stemming from. I ask my students to trust me in allowing them to fill in gaps where they need (as learning is not always a linear process), to improve their confidence. Ultimately, when a student feels confident in what they are learning, the graded results will follow.
