I received an 18.2 out for 20 for English literature (St. Philips College), graduating with a 94.5 ATAR in the SACE system. Initially, I found English literature hard to comprehend as I struggled to grasp and articulate the text’s content. I had not received higher than a B on any written work until my senior years of high schools in which I worked hard and found ways to excel. I appreciate that we all have our challenges, and to my students, I offer strategies that I found dramatically improved my reading and writing skills.
Since completing year 12, I have undertaken an undergraduate Arts degree in education and have just finished an Honours thesis that asked questions about the relationships between people and places. In writing this often abstract thesis, I have learnt to value further the written word and its capacity to convey meaning.
Based on my experience, I believe that anyone can thrive in the field of literary studies with the right guidance. My journey was significantly aided by my teachers’ passion and support, which helped me ask what felt like ‘silly questions’. I believe that education, especially in a subject that helps build our knowledge of the world and how we relate to it, should be done in a safe space and that is what I strive for in my lessons: by opening an honest dialogue with students.
Thus far, my tutoring experiences have been working with students in after school homework centres whilst employed at my old school. I have also tutored social skills with people with Autism and other ‘one on one’ sessions with students either trying to achieve their full potential or catching up on missed classwork.
I provide students with:
– Advice and strategies on how to read more effectively and decipher the textual meaning
– A set of compressive notes as well as how to effectively compile their own
– Phone and email support seven days a week
– A comfortable learning environment within which to excel
I am flexible with my schedule and will ensure I do my utmost to accommodate your needs.
I look forward to working with you in considering the beautiful world of the written word.
