About Michael

ABOUT ME!

Hi there!

I completed my VCE back in 2013 and achieved a 99.30 ATAR; now I’m currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce & Mechatronics Engineering double degree at Monash University, from which I was also awarded two scholarships (at enrolment) and faculty recognition for top marks in (engineering) Dynamical Systems (in 2017).

I’m often described as having a natural aptitude for STEM subjects, and this still seems to hold today; I achieved raw study scores of 42, 43, 45 and 47 in Chemistry, Physics, Maths Methods and Specialist Maths, respectively, and I maintain a high distinction average for my university course.

In my experience as a student, I’ve known many peers and friends who, compared to myself, appeared to be rigorously studious, with beautifully produced notes and material, only to fail to achieve their desired results, and I’ve also known others who were the complete opposite. I’ve found that for the former, it almost always came down to poor fundamental understanding of the subjects and their approach was what I’d call “black-box learning” – learning to solve problems without understanding how the solution works. My goal as a tutor is to ensure that the student can open up these black boxes and understand them, regardless of the subject. Furthermore, I aim to encourage the student to open their mind to other problem solving methodologies and adapt them however they feel is most comfortable for them.

While my strengths are in STEM subjects (Physics, Maths Methods and Specialist Maths specifically), I am able to facilitate tutoring services for English Language (38) and Japanese as second language (35) as well.

MY LOCATION, COSTS AND AVAILABILITY!

Ideal tutoring locations for me are at Ashburton, Mount Waverley and Monash University Clayton Libraries, but alternative locations in these respective suburbs can be negotiated, as well as Glen Waverley. However, be mindful that I am limited by public transport.

As another alternative, I can also offer online tutoring instead; the online platform can be negotiated but I am comfortable with Discord and Skype.

Rates:

$40/hr for STEM subjects
$35/hr for language subjects
Additional costs may apply if long commutes are necessary
Times:

Weekends on afternoons are best
Mondays I might be available most of the day (TBD)
