Hi all, thanks for taking time to read my profile.
I graduated in 2018 from Melbourne High School, achieving a study score of 48 (top 0.5% of the state) in English and an ATAR of 98.70. I will be offering VCE English tutoring in 2019.
Previously, I was just an average student in English, averaging B+’s in year 11. However, I soon learned that English is not the arduous and meaningless subject I originally thought it to be, but a relatively easy and rewarding subject. It is all about working hard AND smart; I personally took a notes and preparation heavy approach to succeed in English. What this means is I read and learned from high scoring essays, incorporating my favourite ideas and language into my own essays. I then partly memorised my essays, allowing me to be fully prepared for all SACs. Indeed, this approach netted me an A+ for every SAC and my 48 study score.
This almost miraculous transformation has given me a desire to pass on what I learned in 2018 to others, and to demonstrate that English can actually be a enjoyable subject whilst being very rewarding in really boosting your ATAR. I will be taking a notes-intensive approach, where I will distribute my personally prepared materials and focusing on specific feedback in lessons once core concepts are explained. This way, you can effectively self-study even outside of lessons and we can focus on areas of improvement during lessons.
In 2018, the texts I studied are: Rear Window, Nineteen Eighty-Four and Stasiland. However, I am willing to study and tutor for other texts as well. I am able to provide students with extensive study material, practice papers, and responsive and detailed feedback by email 7 days a week. I believe anyone and everyone has the potential to succeed in English; it just takes finding the right approach for every student, which I believe I will be able to do.
