Hi, I’m Malcolm.
I am currently a Ph’d student on the Hawthorn campus of Swinburne University (Spatial economics and the regulatory environment in respect of the introduction of autonomous vehicles). I hold two Master Degrees (MA – Applied Linguistics & International Urban and Environmental Management) further to my original BA and a later Graduate Diploma in Planning and Design from Melbourne University. I personally studied HSC (325 – top four subjects) decades ago however due to the fact that I have children of my own now in the Australian Primary and Secondary School system, I remain a little familiar with the VCE program. I have taught ESL and Economics for 14 years (12 in Korea and 2 in China). Prior to my departure overseas to teach, I ran a business of my own (immigration consultancy) for five years following an earlier five years working in the Federal government.
I am able to tutor in the subjects of Economics, Social Studies, Geography, History, Politics / Legal Studies, English and English Literature across all year levels (I had Units in the School of Engineering in my last Master Degree (Thermodynamics and Photo-voltaic Systems)….at an EARLY Secondary School Level, I would be able to provide tuition in Physics, Chemistry and basic science but generally am stronger in the Humanities).
I love China and greatly enjoyed my years in Korea (a wonderful country to affordably engage in outdoor adventures). I dive and snorkel and hike and cycle and otherwise enjoy travel, having variously studied Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic and a little Mandarin Chinese over the course of my studies. For a teacher, i believe that the most satisfying aspect of teaching is to observe students gaining better grades and improving in their academic performance as a result of the contact that they have had with you. Young people often have an ‘energy’ that makes socialising with them an enjoyable experience.
MY LOCATION, COSTS AND AVAILABILITY!
I charge $55 per person per hour. This rate is a little similar to the in-house rate charged by RMIT (where I have also provided classes) and so I judge it to be a fair market price. The rate may be discounted where there is a group of students (I highly recommend NOT exceeding 3 – 4 students per class….after that point it becomes far less of a tutoring experience). I live in Rosanna and study in Swinburne. I am able to instruct an any location near either of these destinations or in between them. There is a separate transport charge payable where I need to use my car depending upon time, distance and the availability of free parking.
