ABOUT ME & QUALIFICATIONS
Hey there! Thank you for visiting my page, my name is Lily and I am a conscientious and engaging VCE English, VCE English Language, VCE Art and VCE Drama tutor. I received an ATAR of 98.45 in 2011, from John Curtin College of the Arts in Perth, Western Australia. I achieved the raw scores of 88.9 in English, 91.4 in Drama (practical and written) and 71.3 in Art (practical and written), which translates approximately to a VCE score of 45 in English, 48 in Drama and 40 in Art. I’m passionate about the cultural sphere and am fully committed to aiding students achieve their best in such a complex discipline. I believe confidence and critical thinking are crucial to academic success, and I aim to make communicating your ideas second nature by making evident the mechanisms of the curriculum and what is expected of you.
I am currently undertaking my Masters in Cultural Materials Conservation at the University of Melbourne and hope to embark on further research in the intersections of the arts and education. I understand education to be a vital part of the cultural arena and prioritize a non-hierarchical pedagogical approach to foster a love for knowledge. As a result my tutoring approach is based around adapting the content and the curriculum to my students needs and learning style. By breaking down the marking mechanisms students should feel confident to communicate their own ideas in a way that addresses all elements of the question.
I am well versed in grammar, lexicology, morphology and phonology as well as semantics and syntax, and have studied the texts, Shakespeare Macbeth, Arthur Miller The Crucible, and The Death of a Salesman, Matt Cameron Ruby Moon, Marcus Zuszak The Book Thief, Mary Shelley Frankenstein and George Orwell 1984. In art I am familiar with the canonical narratives and theoretical developments in Australia America and Europe (Germany and France focused) from the modern period onwards. However, I am willing to read any new texts for the subject in my time available, although I have worked with students in which I was unfamiliar with the texts and we have still been able to have insightful discussions and focus on the articulation of this.
If you were to hire me you would have access to my positive outlook, example essays and essay questions. I am also available for phone and email support for any issues of inquires outside of our sessions. My priority is to see my students confidently achieve their goals, and I will offer as much guidance as needed.
