My name is Jess. I’m a passionate, patient and caring tutor, bubbly when I need to be, serious when I need to be “,)
I am three-quarters through my Masters of Teaching at the University of Melbourne. I am really passionate about using an interdisciplinary research approach to thinking about learning and pedagogy. This means, as a teacher and tutor, I look for transforming interests within one area, to developing and growing interests across other areas, to encourage a well rounded academic development, passion for learning, learning to succeed and succeeding in learning.
My subject areas are all general curriculum areas from F-10 including but not limited to: Maths, English, Science, Social Science/Humanities, Arts, Music including theory and composition. I also support teaching math, science and technology through coding, with ScopeIT.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Music (hons) from the New Zealand School of Music in 2011, where I grew up. In high school, my level 3 (VCE equivalent) subjects were Music, Physics, Chemistry, Calculus (Maths Methods) and English, and took optional scholarship exams in Music, Physics and Calculus in 2006. I grew up surrounded by academic prowess, having siblings and a parent who have completed PhDs in biomedical science, physics and veterinary science, whilst all retaining a passion for other subjects and music.
Since finishing my music studies, I have worked closely running music classes for 0-11 year old, and have been a private instrumental teacher. My main instruments are voice, piano, violin (and dabble guitar, ukulele, cello and double bass).
I have been teaching online all year, and am very capable and comfortable navigating the ups and downs of technology in education. I’m happy to teach online and in-person (when restrictions ease).
MY LOCATION, COSTS AND AVAILABILITY!
I’m based in Brunswick East for when face to face sessions can resume. I am keen to travel to you with 2-3 km, or further if alternating with online lessons and in-person lessons. I also have a studio space where lessons take place in my house (music studio), or am happy to meet at a convenient public space.
Currently, I am available 3-5 days per week while I finish my studies, including Saturdays. After I finish my studies, I aim to continue tutoring after school 4 days a week and on Saturdays.
As an experienced music teacher and post-graduate student at the University of Melbourne, my general hourly rate is $50, my music rate is $65.
