Hi There! Thanks for visiting my profile.
My name is James and I have an absolute passion for Science. Additionally, I also had the honour of returning to Scotch College last year as the School Captain. I have been tutoring approximately 10 students for 2 years now, and have had many students ranging in all levels of ability. I absolutely love what I do, and I believe I can make a profound difference in your academic results.
I was able to attain a score of 48 in Chemistry in 2014, and obtained a SAC ranking of 3rd place at Scotch College. Last year, I was also able to obtain a score of 46 in Maths Methods, and had the benefit of completing the course for two years in a row due to my Captaincy. I am therefore extremely familiar of what is expected to perform well, and how to fill any gaps you may have.
I would love to pass on my knowledge to current Year 11 and Year 12 students, hence I will be offering my private tutoring services for both units 1/2 and 3/4 Chemistry and Methods!
Chemistry can be a very difficult, confusing subject to grasp, with many separate, complicated topics. That is why it is my aim to break down these topics for my students in a systematic fashion that makes chemistry easy, more enjoyable, and ensures a greater understanding of each individual concept. My main goal is to help you achieve your very best in VCE Chemistry.
Many students have commented to me that the textbook is monotonous, dry and disengaging, and that there is too much content. That is why i believe my passion for Chemistry and enthusiastic personality can totally change your attitude! It is often something only as simple as a boring teacher that can make a subject difficult. My aim is to completely change that.
I am very familiar with the current VCE curriculum for units 1/2 and 3/4 Chemistry and am knowledgeable in many areas such as
- SAC Preparation
- Volumetric and Gravimetric Analysis
- Redox Chemistry
- Spectroscopy and Chromatography
- Organic Chemistry
- Factors affecting Chemical Reactions and Equilibrium
Additionally, having the luxury of repeating Maths Methods (45 in 2014), i have gained even greater comprehension and understanding of the knowledge required to do well.
Like Chemistry, Maths Methods can be very dry, and can jump from topic to topic very quickly. It can be very confusing, and quite often i hear my students tell me that they feel bombarded with content and questions. It is my aim to provide clarity, to go through each topic one by one, and cover all gaps my students may feel they have.
I am extremely familiar with the current Maths Methods curriculum, and cover all dimensions such as:
- Exponential, logarithmic, circular, polynomial, composite and modulus functions
- Inverse Functions
- General Solutions
Part of my tutoring service includes phone and email support 7 days a week, and am always available for any questions you may have, whether it’s a challenging question, or a query on a fundamental understanding. I will also include all my Power Point notes, which are broken down topic by topic in a very concise fashion covering every individual concept. Points will not be missed!
I live the Armadale/Malvern area, so you are more than welcome to come to me or i can come to you – which ever suits. I am available Monday to Friday, and I will do my utmost best to accommodate you into my schedule!
I also hold a valid Working with Children’s Check, and Victorian Driver’s License.
I am only charging $60 per hour. Contact me today and let’s get you right on track!
James was on time, engaging, personable and professional in his approach.. I’m happy he’s my tutor.
