Hi! My name’s James and I have been a VCE English Language tutor for over three years now. My passions include the Humanities, footy, cricket, and video games.
I completed VCE in 2012 and attained an ATAR of 98.00, with study scores of 49 (raw) for History: Revolutions and 42 (raw) for both English Language and Global Politics.
I am currently studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Monash University, and have completed a Bachelor of Arts. I majored in History and minored in English as an International Language, with both Linguistics and International Relations as electives.
I am very passionate about these academic fields, with my university studies closely mirroring subjects I covered in school and significantly expanding upon them. Students can benefit from my experience in these fields, as well as access to a range of content to assist with their studies.
I have a valid Working with Children Check.
I offer private lessons for Units 3/4 of History: Revolutions, English Language, and Global Politics. Students seeking tuition for Units 1/2 of these subjects, or in non-VCE English and History, are also very welcome.
I understand the struggle that VCE can be and I can empathise with students on this. As a result, I aim to make my lessons interesting and interactive for students, while also promoting critical and analytical thoughts about the content. This ensures that students understand the content and can confidently and capably tackle assessment.
Subject notes are provided to students free of charge, and I am happy to go over work and notes provided by the school as well.
I cater to all learning styles and can structure lessons around how each student prefers to learn, or learns best.
For all subjects, I mainly focus on:
Understanding and revision of course content
Short and extended-answer questions
Essay writing and planning
SAC and exam preparation
Students can feel free to ask about any other aspect of their subject; I’ll do everything I can to help! I am also available for contact by email 7 days a week.
Regarding History: Revolutions, I have substantial knowledge and resources for Units 3 and 4 of the French Revolution and Chinese Revolution.
Availability and Charge
I live in Glen Waverley and can travel around the Eastern/South-Eastern suburbs, as well as to the State Library or any other city location.
I’m available for all of Saturday and Sunday. As a full-time university student my availability in the week is limited to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, though I will endeavour to be as flexible as possible with my weekday hours to meet student needs.
I’m happy to tutor students at their homes or another location such as a local library. Private lessons are $40 per hour, and group lessons are $30 per hour for each student in the group. Subject notes and 7-day-a-week email assistance are offered free of charge.
Thank you for checking out my profile!
Thanks for following up. Nicholas’ feedback on James was that he:
· was very personable
· knew the subjects very well and the lesson structure made it easy for Nicholas to understand
· went out of his way to provide resources / examples.
As a result Nicholas is looking forward to the next tutorial.
Very helpful and knowledgeable, plenty of knowledge from outside the study design to help make sense of topics.
My daughter is very happy with her tutor. She finds him very knowledgeable and helpful and is feeling a lot more confident about Revolutions.
Works well with out daughter and she finds him very helpful. James is on time and well organised.
