Hi, I’m Jake and I am a tutor willing to provide the best support for students and work with them to achieve their goals – whether it be to help them achieve the minimum score required for their university course, or even achieve a perfect 50 study score! Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile!
ABOUT ME AND MY QUALIFICATIONS
I graduated from Caulfield Grammar School in 2015 attaining an ATAR of 98.85 and tutor in Physics and Maths Methods. I have had tutoring experience for the past year, both privately and in within a classroom environment. I achieved raw study scores of 46 in Physics (scaled to 48), 41 in Maths Methods (scaled to 46), 41 in English Language (scaled to 44), 46 in Further Maths, 44 in Psychology, and 40 in Chemistry (scaled to 44). At Speech Night in 2015, I received the Lyle Buntine Memorial Prize for Science (general excellence across Physics, Chemistry, and Psychology).
Whilst in year 12, I was involved in extracurricular activities within the Arts (including the senior band and choir), being the Grammarian Yearbook copyeditor, working a part-time job at KFC, and being in a dance crew for showcases and competitions throughout the year. These activities enabled me to have a break from studying by keeping a balanced life. Rather than inhibiting my ability to do well in SACs or exams, they instead kept me organised and on top of my work schedule. I find that time management is key, especially in the final years of school. I am currently in second year studying a double degree of Biomedical Science and Engineering (Honours) at Monash University.
I am passionate and willing to provide the best learning experience for students by adapting to their learning styles. I understand that Year 11 and 12 can become pretty hectic with built up weeks of SACs and extracurricular activities, so I would like to make sure that my students are prepared well in advance and not feeling too stressed during such times. I believe that determination and being able to understand the concepts on a deeper level is utmost important.
I have various learning strategies for each subject which I will work through to help students achieve their goals. Maths Methods is all about mastering the skills and further developing strategies with how to attack extended-response questions, which I found are vital to maintain within the time constraints in tested situations (take a look at my study plan for Maths Methods here: learnmate.com.au/methods-study-plan/ ). I have a variety of logical ways to approach different styles of questions and I will drill these through. With Physics, I believe it to be important to understand concepts confidently on a deep level, through visuals and relating them semantically, as the types of questions VCAA ask predominantly test contextual understanding over memory skills. For this subject, I have comprehensive notes, as well as past marked papers to review.
LOCATION, COSTS, & AVAILABILITY
I am currently available for tutoring on weekdays and weekends – please contact me for my exact availability. I am also readily available to help outside tutoring time over social media! I am located in Mulgrave/Wheelers Hill but I am also available to tutor at Monash University. I charge only $50 an hour for Physics or Methods.
I look forward to hearing from you and thanks again for taking the time to read my profile!
Yes, Samantha was quite happy with her lesson. She came away understanding much more than she had been taught.
Jake has been helping Kanishk big time not only with the course structure but just as mentor in all aspects. We are very pleased with him. Kansihk was not at all confident in Physics and he received an ‘A’ in his recent report. This has boosted his confidence massively.
