Hi, thanks for visiting my profile page. My name is Gordon and I’m a recent HSC graduate (2016) who achieved an ATAR of 90.6 and currently doing Computer Science in University of NSW. As a tutor, I want to help student in achieving their personal academic goal via personal engagement and motivation.
In my academic history, I graduated from Sydney Technical High School in 2016. My biggest academic achievement during high school is the “Academy Access Award” from Western Sydney University back in Year 11, also receiving a scholarship in the process.
In term of my subjects, I got E4 for Math Extension 1 (91) and E3 for Math Extension 2 (83) in HSC.
Based on my approach during my HSC time, I want to not only help student academically but personally and mentally as HSC is more than a series of test. For me, a tutor is most effective when he/she understands the student situation and have a small chat in regard to that, setting a good relationship between both tutor and student. Through my experience, student will perform better if they have a good mindset and mental approach to the test.
During class, I want student to have a good understanding of major concept via doing exercises. I believe that physically doing the problem will highlight issues which require work for the upcoming test. This approach reflects how I work – understand the concept but spend more time on using and implementing your understanding. This approach works best for math as the only way to improve your math skill is exercises. Do exercise again again and again.
Ideally, I want student to not only understand the concept but talk and discuss about it to their tutor. Not only it strengthens their understanding, it also allows me to improve as a tutor.
Student would have access to most of my HSC relevant resources (especially Maths Extension 2 notes). I’m willing to help student if needed and provide feedback to the student work via email outside of the class time.
Location, Availability & Costs
I live in Hurstville area. I do consider the distance of travelling to the student location but it shouldn’t be a major problem unless I raised concern about it.
I’m currently available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon and the weekends. For other time, please feel free to enquire me about those times and we can make an arrangement if possible.
I am able to tutor in most of Southern Sydney suburb.
I’m happy to tutor primary-aged students to Year 11-12 students.
My cost is $30 per hour for one-on-one tutoring. For group tutoring, I’m may be doing it in the future.
Thanks for reading. I look forward to meeting you!
