Hello, my name’s Glenda! Thank-you for taking the time to look at my profile!
I attended Ivanhoe Girl’s Grammar School through an eight-year academic scholarship, and during my time there attained High Distinctions in the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians and the UNSW Mathematics Competition, as well as the award for Highest Individual Score in the Australasian Mathematical Olympiads. I was the Maths Methods Dux of the school in 2015 with a study score of 44 (48 scaled). I graduated Ivanhoe Girls’ in 2016 with an ATAR of 99.45, and my study score for English (48) reflects my capacity to express complex concepts clearly and precisely to students.
Feelings of helplessness and inability are roadblocks to any level of success. The help of a mentor that students can openly trust and question without fear of judgment, who works to build confidence and technique in subjects whilst also maintaining a mutual, supportive learning environment, is what can overcome these initial setbacks. I look to be this mentor for potential students, whilst maintaining that the VCE need not be daunting, and it isn’t the be all and end all of success.
However, I also believe that hard work and dedication are required to achieve any level of improvement. A good student will know a concept well enough to get questions right, while an excellent student will know the concept well enough to get no questions wrong. I’ve met my fair share of mistakes in the past, but from them I have learnt to always strive for improvement; this is the philosophy that I wish to bring to other students.
In regards to Maths Methods, I am able to assist in both Units ½ and ¾:
- Functions and graphs
- Probability and Statistics
- CAS usage
Maths Methods is a subject which requires a solid grasp of ideas and technique, but also an understanding of the complexities of tougher questions and a familiarity with a wide range of maths problems. Having worked to gain this knowledge myself in the past, I wish to pass it on to others, to see students meet, and surpass what I’ve accomplished so far in the subject.
