Hi! My name is Emma, I’m currently completing my Bachelor of Arts with honours in history, due to graduate later this year.
In school, I was definitely characterised as a nerd! I’ve always loved to study and learning new things is always fun for me. So throughout my school and university career, I’ve studied a wide range of topics. At school, I took maths B (accelerated program), maths C, English (of course!), modern history, music, music extension, and drama. I adored maths, loved the humanities and also had great fun with the arts, and graduated in 2014 with VHs in all subjects and an OP 1.
After graduating high school I had a gap year training and performing in musical theatre shows, before taking a more humanities focus at university. I studied a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Queensland, majoring in history with minors in international relations and English literature. I received the Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence in 2018 and 2019, and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in 2019 with an undergraduate GPA of 6.42. I was also recognised as a UQ Class of 2019 Future Leader for my academic achievement and involvement in extracurriculars while studying. Once I graduated, I decided I wanted to push myself further to complete an honours degree, and have been working on my honours thesis in history this year.
While at uni, I’ve sought out opportunities for me to share my passion for learning and help others achieve their personal best. I genuinely enjoy sharing my experiences with others and helping them achieve their study goals. Seeing students start to become more engaged in their work and understand the content more deeply is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a tutor and mentor. I have a blue card and have previously tutored high school students in history, English and maths. I have also been a student mentor in UQ’s O’ to 4 mentoring program for the last three years, which involves helping new students foster personal connections with fellow students, running campus tours, facilitating group activities, answering questions and sharing study advice. As a LearnMate tutor, I want to continue to nurture and empower students to achieve their academic goals. I know how daunting high school can be, particularly in the final years, and am keen to share my experiences and help build my students’ confidence so they can excel in school and beyond.

I am very pleased and grateful for the tutoring Emma provides. Emma has an amazing calm nature and clear maths proficiency that has facilitated a great deal of improvement in my son’s confidence and achievement.
