About Courtney

Hi! Thanks for considering me as a tutor for Philosophy or English Literature!

I received a study score of 43 for English Literature and 41 for Philosophy in 2013 at Ballarat Grammar School. In Year 12 I was awarded the Brian Poxon Religion, Philosophy & Ethics Prize for outstanding achievement in Philosophy, and I was named the Most Promising Female Philosopher at the 2013 Australasian Philosothon. I also received the school Writer’s Award in 2012. Currently I am completing an Arts degree at Melbourne University, majoring in Philosophy and Creative Writing.

My tutoring approach

My top priority is to help you succeed in your studies. I aim to ensure that my students understand in detail all aspects of their subject, that they have fun learning, and are motivated to work hard and achieve their best results. I cater to all learning styles, so whether you learn best from written notes, images and diagrams, or simply talking face to face, I will try to find a way which suits you!

I am passionate about Philosophy and Literature, and have continued to study both subject areas in university. I believe my interest and engagement with both Literature and Philosophy will ignite a similar sense of enthusiasm in my students, and motivate them to succeed in their subject.

I understand from my own time in VCE that subjects can sometimes seem tedious, uninteresting, or just so overwhelming and complicated. I’m here to help! I want you to discover your own intrigue and interest in your subject, and to feel confident in your abilities.

I am up to date with the current curriculum for both Philosophy and Literature. My areas of skill in both subjects include:

  • Essay writing
  • Understanding set texts & readings
  • Understanding key concepts & ideas in the wider subject
  • SAC preparation.

For Literature, the texts I have studied or am familiar with include Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Heart of Darkness, and Katherine Mansfield’s Collected Stories, to name a few. If I am unfamiliar with the particular text you are studying, I am willing to read it to gain an understanding of its subject matter. However, if it is not possible for me to do so, I am sure we can still have great, productive lessons covering essay writing, SAC prep, and key concepts within Literature.

Concerning Philosophy, I have a detailed understanding of Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Hume, Descartes, and various other philosophers and key philosophical ideas.

If you’d like me to be your tutor, you can rest assured that you will never be without new notes and ideas to help you along with your studies! I am also pleased to offer free email or phone advice outside of tutorial hours should you be in need of help throughout the week.

Location, Availability & Costs

I live in the Brunswick West area and attend university in Parkville. I am happy to conduct tutorials at my own home, at your house, or at public libraries within these areas. Please see my available tutoring times as listed, and I will do my best to find a time that works for you.

I charge only $42 an hour for tutoring sessions. I look forward to hearing from you, and helping to get you started on a successful semester!
