About The LearnMate Summer Meetup

This is the perfect opportunity to learn the tips and tricks of the trade to becoming an amazing tutor. You will not be disappointed – with a focus on both professional and company development, you’ll be able to learn exactly how to become a successful tutor.

So what exactly is this ‘Summer Meetup’?

Good question! The main purposes for this meet up are:
1. Professional Development

2. Company Development

Professional Development:

  • I will aim to get some very experienced tutors to come along and provide their knowledge on how to tackle common issues in tutoring as well as how to become a better communicator, motivator and mentor.
  • I will also present based on my personal experience all of the common issues I’ve faced and how I’ve dealt with it.
  • I will also talk about my experience on how to better market yourself and develop a name/authority for yourself!
  • You will also get a chance to meet up with tutors for similar subjects (e.g. if you teach Biology you can chat to another tutor who teaches Biology) – this will provide an invaluable experience to gain insight into how other tutors conduct their lessons.

Before I started LearnMate, I was a private tutor myself for a couple of years. During this time, I learnt many skills that I will be presenting to you at this meetup. Shortly thereafter, I couldn’t keep up with demand and managed to amass a regular client base of 25 students per week. I got to the point where I was turning away students, and of course that didn’t sit right with me. That’s when LearnMate was born. Not only will I present tutoring skills, but also marketing skills – and how to attain more students than you can dream of.

Company Development:

  • My vision is to make this Australia’s largest and to knock out some of the giants. I’d love to hear about any feedback you have about our systems, how we can improve the company processes and culture etc.
  • You’ll be able to network with similar and like-minded tutors and forge friendships. I have seen many tutors become friends with each other simply by attending our past meetups.

You’ll be provided with notes and resources on all of the tips and tricks provided during the workshop in a nice neat folder!

I’ll be providing snacks, drinks and some food, but I will aim to end at 1:30pm just in time for lunch at the place. Subway will be provided free of charge 🙂 How can you go wrong with free Subway!?

This will be held on Saturday 4th of February, as I figured if it were to be held any later then it would cause some scheduling issues with lessons, and university students will still mostly be on break. Please arrive at 10:45am and we will finish by 1:30pm in time for lunch.

If you’d like to attend, please click here. Both current and new LearnMate tutors are welcome to attend. If you’d like to bring a friend along to introduce them to the company, then by all means feel free to – please just ask me first.

I look forward to seeing you there! 🙂

This meetup is presented by Dmitri Dalla-Riva, an experienced VCE English Language tutor and workshop presenter, as well as owner of LearnMate tutoring. Dmitri attained a study score of 45 in the subject in 2012 and was Dux of Scotch College, Melbourne.

Hey guys!

It’s Dmitri here from LearnMate Tutoring. Over the past 1.5 years, LearnMate has grown from 0 to 300 tutors and part of this growth has been fuelled by my desire to better society. I believe we’re on the right path to doing really great things and I want to continue to build on this vision. Helping people – both tutors and students alike, is my mission.

I would love to take this opportunity to meet you if we haven’t met before (the perils of the virtual world), and get to know you better. If you know that you’ll be tutoring for some time and want to improve on your tutoring skills and the company, then feel free to come along 🙂

I look forward to seeing you there and getting to know you personally!

Kind Regards,

Special Guest!

I’ve got a guest speaker (will organise more in the coming weeks), who will chat to you during the meet up.

His name is Ronald Khoo, a really good friend of mine and a current Maths, Physics & Specialist Maths tutor. He’s LearnMate’s top tutor and simply an amazing person! Ronald, with his profound experience, will discuss topics such as:

– How to tackle the first lesson and what to do
– Common encounters in tutoring and how to overcome them
– How to market yourself effectively
– How to communicate effectively
– And any other questions you’d like to ask him!

You can read more about Ronald’s profile here (he’s super smart and really personable):

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. You want to become a better tutor.
  2. You want to meet other tutors and learn from each other.
  3. You want to learn how to market yourself better.
  4. You want to be a part of a growing company with a focus on culture.

– Generally, there is no limit. However, judging by past experience, the workshop gets fully booked out a few days before the payment deadline. So, I would recommend not waiting until the last minute to purchase!

Yes, on the day you’ll be provided with all notes in a neat booklet. All other notes will be sent digitally to you at the end of the meetup. Over the past year I have created some amazing documents and I want you to have access to all of this.

If you’re unable to attend for whatever reason (that’s okay!), I will be sure to give you access to all notes electronically. I am thinking of also recording the meetup to put up online exclusive to LearnMate tutors.

Yes! A free Subway lunch will be provided at the end of the Meetup – around 1:30pm. Make sure you advise me of any allergies or special dietary requirements so I can order you your own Subway.

Testimonials from LearnMate Tutors…

  • LearnMate has been wonderful with providing training and opportunities which have helped me build my professional repertoire and extend my tutoring skills. This has been a wonderful experience and I've had the opportunity to work with bright, capable VCE students independently while receiving support from Dmitri who has been both communicative and very friendly.

Kathy G – Current LearnMate Tutor
  • Being a tutor at LearnMate has given me the skills to refine and enhance my teaching methods so as to ensure that each student is truly reaching their potential! The guidance and support from the LearnMate community creates a unique space whereby everyone is engaged with the latest VCE study plans!

Penny H – Current LearnMate Tutor
  • During my time as a tutor at LearnMate, I have felt privileged to be able to work with and help a wonderfully diverse array of students in achieving their VCE goals through such a great organisation. Without Dmitri's continual support and communication, I feel that my progress as a tutor would have been harder to achieve. I've found this experience fulfilling and enjoyable. It's fantastic to see my students reach their potential!

Camilla E – Current LearnMate Tutor
  • LearnMate has definitely helped me connect with students who are passionate about learning. The diversity that LearnMate provides makes our job even more rewarding!
